01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

When you want a sweet break while strolling around Yushima or visiting Yushima Tenmangu Shrine, Mitsubachi offers a comforting stop as the shop celebrated for creating ogura sweet red bean ice cream. The signature ogura ice cream keeps the rustic texture and natural fragrance of whole azuki beans, finishing on a clean, refreshing note. For dine-in guests, it arrives in tin vessels used for over 100 years; the high thermal conductivity of the metal softens the ice cream gradually, shifting its texture as you eat.

For a first visit, the Ogura Shiratama Anmitsu brings together classic Japanese confections with that signature scoop. Chilled ogura ice cream is paired with chewy gyuhi, sweet-tart apricot, and tender agar cubes. A pitcher resembling a sobayu pot arrives at the table filled with thick, glossy kuromitsu black sugar syrup, giving you complete freedom to drizzle as much of the rich syrup over the bowl as you like.

Beyond the tearoom, the storefront takeaway counter stays busy. Ice cream monaka—crisp wafer shells sandwiching cold ice cream—make ideal treats for wandering through the neighborhood or taking home as a gift. The shop also offers Sahara, pairing cubes of agar with generous coats of toasted kinako soybean flour and dark syrup, as well as takeaway anmitsu packs with ingredients boxed separately from the agar so you can assemble the historic flavors at home.

For eat-in visits, place your order and settle the bill at the counter before taking a seat; the shop accepts PayPay in addition to cash. Whether lingering at a table admiring the antique tin tableware or picking up a snack for the road, Mitsubachi delivers the enduring, comforting sweetness of old Tokyo.
